Ningirsu - Premium Hoodie

About this Original Artwork:

All artwork is original, high-resolution and drawn by hand. This piece is a part of my series titled “Homeland” and is a tribute to my deep and rich culture. My Mesopotamian ancestors invented the wheel and writing, discovered the stars, created laws and began human civilization. There are many of us still here all over the word. We speak a Aramaic, a 3000 year old language that is STILL written and spoken today by the indigenous Chaldeans and Assyrians of Ancient Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq, Turkey, Syria and Iran.). As a people, we have been divided, conquered, persecuted for our Christian faith and faced genocide for thousands of years. Our population in the homeland is rapidly dwindling because most of our families have fled and have been settling outside of our ancestral lands for the last 100 years. Proceeds from your purchase will go to benefit Nineveh Rising, a non-profit who helps these families in the homeland. You can check out their work here: https://www.ninevehrising.org/

Front: The word Shamash means “sun” but it is also the name of the Ancient Mesopotamian sun god. Shamash is written in Aramaic.

Bank: The eagle-headed figure is an Ancient Mesopotamian diety named Ningirsu. He is the god of farming, healing, hunting, law, scribes, and war. Ningirsu cures humans of sicknesses and diseases and releases them from the power of demons.

Cuneiform tablets, sculptures and walls with referencing and depicting Ningirsu can be seen in museums all over the world.
